Ring's long-awaited car camera is now available for pre-order.
Announced at CES 2023, you can pre-order the camera for the limited-time price of $199 (normally, it retails for $249.99). There are a few key features from the Ring Car Cam. First: It has a dual-facing camera that'll record when the car is in motion or parked. That means in the event of a break-in the camera's sensors will alert it to automatically start recording. You could also use the camera's built-in microphone to speak live to the person breaking into the car, which...might scare some people away.
Second: Ring's Car Cam works within the Ring system. For better or worse, the Amazon-owned Ring is incredibly popular. That means folks can get a car camera that works with a security system they already use. Another big feature is called Traffic Stop. In the event you get in a minor accident or you're pulled over by the police, you can say "Alexa, record" and the camera will record with the car stopped in or in park.
The camera will automatically connect to your home WiFi but you can get LTE functionality with a Ring Protect Go subscription that will cost you $6 per month, or $60 a year. That subscription means you'll be able to get alerts while your car is away from home and will allow you to look into your vehicle live, no matter where it is.
Ring first announced the Car Cam in 2020, but it will now begin shipping to customers in February.
In addition to the Car Cam, Ring also announced it would bring back its Peephole Cam. It's the camera that installs over your existing peephole, meaning folks who live in an apartment — i.e. without a front door — can install a video doorbell. It features a 1080 HD camera, night vision, two-way talk, and motion detection. It'll retail for $129.99.
